It's a massive work, roughly similar in coffee table book dimensions and weight to the O.R. Atlas. I can't do a better summary than his own. Every book is a labor of love to some degree, but this one really goes the extra mile.

Booknotes - "Never for Want of Powder: The Confederate Powder Works in Augusta, Georgia"
I recall Dimitri Rotov marveling about the quality and improbability of this book a while back, but I haven't seen Never for Want of Powder: The Confederate Powder Works in Augusta, Georgia by C. L. Bragg, Gordon A. Blaker, Charles D. Ross, Stephanie A. T. Jacobe, and Theodore P. Savas (University of South Carolina Press, 2007) with my own eyes until now. It's a massive work, roughly similar in coffee table book dimensions and weight to the O.R. Atlas. I can't do a better summary than his own. Every book is a labor of love to some degree, but this one really goes the extra mile.

Thanks Drew. It was really enjoying participating in this book. U of SC Press did a magnificent job on it.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Rains has long been ignored, and yet he was in my opinion more important to Confederate fortunes than Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson combined.
My biography of him is an on again, off again, project (simply because I get sidetracked easily). Thus far he is just wrapping up his Mexican War experiences.
