Knowing Scott this will be a wonderful study. I wish for his sake he had gone to a trade/independent press, or a different University Press. But, I hope it works out for him.Ted Savaswww.savasbeatie.com
Favorably blurbed by Tom Clemens, so that bodes well, anyway.
I wondered when this would finally come out. Looking forward to it. It has been in the making for about 15 years or so I guess.Maybe it gives hopes on seeing Gary Gallagher's 20+ year Jubal Early one day.Chris Evans
I would expect this to be eagerly awaited. I guess from a publishing standpoint, it makes sense to release the two volumes separately. I noticed the price is just under $50.00 for this volume. This will be an expensive set when it is completed, but as others have suggested, probably well worth it. I don't think I've ever seen any other Civil War material published by Johns Hopkins University Press.Don Hallstrom
Don,It's not much, but they have published some CW stuff in the past, including that series of CDV books by Ronald Coddington. I agree with Ted that going with JHUP for a big battle history is a questionable move. I noticed the catalog entry doesn't list any maps, just a bunch of halftones which can be any kind of image (including maps).
Yes, I wish he would have gone with someone like Savas. Would have been much more affordable for the average Civil War Buff.Chris
