Booknotes III (Feb '13)

New Arrivals:

1. Morgan's Great Raid: The Remarkable Expedition from Kentucky to Ohio by David L. Mowery (The Hist Press, 2013).

On the surface, this looks like the Great Raid overview that many readers have been hoping for for a long time. The 25 maps, alone worth the price of the book, are works of art in addition to offering all the features that demanding readers desire.

2. Searching for George Gordon Meade: The Forgotten Victor of Gettysburg by Tom Huntington (Stackpole, 2013).

Huntington's book has a dual focus: a history of Meade's military career and a traveling exploration of Meade's current stature in popular culture and related institutions.
