I think you're right about the physical obliteration keeping it obscure, that and it being overshadowed by the events occurring soon after. Even so, it is surprising that the books by Gen. Oddly enough I became interested in the battle after discovering that it's been obliterated by urban sprawl and that practically no traces of the battlefield remain. I suspect this is part of the reason for its obscurity. I think it's an interesting engagement--and, of course, terribly bloody, which is primarily how the participants remembered it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16471073.post-35039867556262310762010-04-06T15:28:36.496-07:002010-04-06T15:28:36.496-07:00Hi Will,

I found it a serviceable summary (there's still nothing better), but also incomplete and confusing in places [alas, the passage of time has left my particular concerns beyond recall]. In my opinion, we could easily stand a new book length study. I know I would relish reading it. Go for it!DW@CWBAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00018056113264346047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16471073.post-44574784306038731442010-04-06T15:14:28.398-07:002010-04-06T15:14:28.398-07:00This isn't regarding the books in your post, b...This isn't regarding the books in your post, but are you familiar with Steven Newton's 1993 book on the battle of Seven Pines/Fair Oaks? It seems to be the only modern study of the battle other than a chapter in Sears's work on the Peninsula Campaign. I've been toying with the idea of writing a history of the battle, but if people think Newton's book is sufficient then I may Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
