The winter of my discontent

I've said it before, but this has been an unusual winter. It's the constant arrival of new and interesting titles in the mail that buttresses the morale of the unpaid reviewer, but this season's paucity of Dec. - Feb. releases has not been saved by the usual flood of fall titles that missed their original dates. These all seem to have skipped ahead to spring and beyond. Sigh. If things don't pick up around here you'll start seeing posts like "Who's Hotter: Sarah Morgan vs. Kate Chase" and no one wants to read that.

On the other hand, it leaves me with more time to work on my battle sim mobile app conversions. More on that later.

  1. Or worse yet, in my opinion, ...."Who's Hotter: James G. Blunt or Thomas Hindman?" I suppose you could always write about Civil War "classic" books.

    1. Admit it, Jane, you're secretly in love with Earl Van Dorn.

  2. Drew: On the Kate/Sarah topic, try us. You might toss in Anna Dickinson. :)

    1. On a related subject, I've never gotten the whole Belle Boyd thing. She must have possessed considerable charm because she's not a head turner.

    2. We are definitely on the same wavelength regarding that one. Must have been an "isolation"/"deprivation" issue for the admirers.

  3. Savas has had plenty of books that you could still review and the massive Peach Tree Creek book is coming out from Mercer.

  4. I have yet to see a (especially full length) photo of a woman from that era I thought even remotely close to a head-turner. Sarah Morgan vs. Kate Chase--I don't even know who they are. I know. Sad. Maybe.

Don't worry Drew. We have a plethora of good things from last year and this season coming your way.

    1. I'm surprised that you haven't heard of Kate Chase. She was a pretty big deal in Washington, D.C. with all of her connections through her father and husband.

I always thought that Stephen Dodson Ramseur's wife (who was also his cousin) was a nice looking lady. Her photograph can be seen in the Time Life books on the Shenandoah campaign of 1864. Terribly tragic story, though.

  5. Hello Drew

Like Chris, I'm also looking forward to the new book on Peach Tree Creek. Hopefully you will get a copy and let us know.

I believe the only university press that hasn't released a spring catalog is SIU?
