Booknotes (May '14)

New Arrivals:

1. Citizen-General: Jacob Dolson Cox and the Civil War Era by Eugene D. Schmiel (Ohio UP, 2014).

Respected general, politician, historian and much more, Jacob Cox had a hell of a public career and it's great to finally see a critical biography that purportedly does justice to all avenues of the Ohioan's almost mythic American life.

2. Wilderness and Spotsylvania 1864: Grant versus Lee in the East by Andy Nunez (Osprey, 2014).

This has the classic Osprey artwork and map style, but it looks like a new release from the Campaign series and not a reprint.
