Robert Browning, the author of acclaimed histories of the
North Atlantic and
South Atlantic Blockading Squadrons, now has a release date for
Lincoln's Trident: The West Gulf Blockading Squadron during the Civil War (Univ of Ala Press, Nov 2014). It's my opinion that Browning is the premier naval historian of the Civil War currently at work so I'm greatly looking forward to reading this trilogy capstone.
Drew: The series is excellent, but is there any word about a soft cover? The pricing by some of these academic presses virtually guarantees minimal purchases by individuals.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
DeleteNot yet. My guess would be Alabama's Fire Ant imprint will release a paperback, but the time frame will probably be years later. I only own paperbacks of the first two and they came out 10 and 2 years after the first edition appeared. By that time you could probably find a good used copy of the hardcover!
Drew: Thanks. I have both in paperback, as well. It's really unfortunate. Authors like Browning deserve as wide an audience as possible, but this absurd pricing keeps them off the radar.
