2017 Tom Watson Brown Book Award

Handed to a worthy recipient by the Society of Civil War Historians and the Watson–Brown Foundation every year since 2010, the Tom Watson Brown Book Award is a relatively new honor that's quickly climbed up the prestige ladder. It seeks to recognize the year's "best book published on the causes, conduct, and effects, broadly defined, of the Civil War."

Yesterday, it was announced on the SCWH website that the winner for 2017 is Christopher Phillips for The Rivers Ran Backward: The Civil War and the Remaking of the American Middle Border (Oxford, 2016). A well-deserved honor. Bravo.
