Comments: It looks like the Asher book is out already. As was the case in June, the release schedule is heavily weighted toward the second half of the month.

1 - These monthly release lists are not meant to be exhaustive compilations of non-fiction releases. They do not include non-revised/expanded reprints of previously published books and digital-only titles. Works that only tangentially address the war years are also generally excluded. Inevitably, one or more titles on this list will get a rescheduled release (and they do not get repeated later), so revisiting the past few "Coming Soon" posts is the best way to pick up stragglers.

  1. Thank you so much for your review of my book The Boy Generals. In it you supply a link to a self-published book I wrote in 2004 entitled Crossed Sabers. That link will take you to a review by Eric Wittenberg, who rated my book 2 out of 5 stars. More importantly, I corresponded with Eric and over the years we have become good friends. I am proud to say that he has become my mentor. In fact, Eric wrote the Foreword to The Boy Generals. Below is his review of my work.

“I heartily endorse this forthcoming book by my good friend Al Ovies—the first in a trilogy of a groundbreaking study focusing on the contentious relationship between George A. Custer and Wesley Merritt. I’ve read every word of this grand undertaking, and can confirm without qualification that it is some fine work: well-written, thoroughly researched, and entertaining. This is one you cannot miss.”— Eric J. Wittenberg, award-winning author of “The Devil’s to Pay”: John Buford at Gettysburg. A History and Walking Tour

    1. Hi Al,
I think you meant to put this comment in a different post: https://cwba.blogspot.com/2021/06/booknotes-boy-generals.html

Yes, the reason I included that first paragraph was to dissuade anyone from dismissing your new book out of hand due to the earlier review.

I haven't read your book yet (I just got it in the mail). "Booknotes" entries mostly serve as courtesy announcements of every title that I receive.

  2. Holy Smokes! The Western Press in the Crucible of War sounds intriguing. The price though - $94.00. Yikes. I have never heard of Peter Lang International Publishers but I am assuming this is a book that will be published in more than a limited run of 200 - 1,000 copies. Makes McFarland prices look cheap.
