Gary Gallagher's
The Union War (Harvard, 2011) is the winner of the
Tom Watson Brown Book Award. It's a new award (the first biennial winner was Daniel Sutherland in 2010), but has instant prestige given the $50,000 check and the Society of Civil War Historians oversight.
