Blood on the Bayou may sound like a straight to DVD backwoods horror title, but it's actually the third volume in Donald Frazier's excellent "Louisiana Quadrille" series. I've been wondering when some rough idea of its release date would emerge and finally found notice of it on a Fort Worth CWRT press release.
In my mind, the quality of the first two, Fire in the Cane Field (2009) and Thunder Across the Swamp (2011) make the final pair highly anticipated.
I found an interview in which Frazier says the third volume will deal with Port Hudson & Vicksburg and how those campaigns affected operations in Louisiana. Do you know if Banks' autumn 1863 campaign (Battle of Bayou Bourbeaux, etc) might be included in Frazier's summer 1863-winter 1864 time frame? To my (admittedly limited) knowledge, there hasn't been an in-depth work on that campaign since Edmonds' "Yankee Autumn in Acadiana" 30 years ago (the Campaigns & Commanders series did a slim volume in late 90s).
ReplyDeleteI grew up in the Lafayette area and "Yankee Autumn" was the first "adult" Civil War book I read. It's time for fresh looks at Port Hudson and the Texas Overland expedition.

I don't know what he's planning, but I can't imagine him leaving it out.
DeleteThanks; looking forward to it.
