Booknotes - "Chicago's Irish Legion"

In a recent post, I remarked about how nice it would be if more unit histories included maps that traced their wartime movements. Interestingly, the very next regimental history I received in the mail has maps that do just that. James B. Swan's Chicago's Irish Legion: The 90th Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War (SIU Press, 2009) is a promising study. More than half the text covers the Atlanta-March to the Sea-Carolinas series of campaigns so it looks to be an especially good source of information for the late war period in the west. The bibliography appears adequate, and a roster appendix is included, too.
