Just wondered what was your opinion of "Grierson's Raid" by Tom Lalicki?
ReplyDeleteCharles S
Charles,
ReplyDeleteI've never gotten around to reading any of the Grierson's Raid books. I may be wrong, but I think most people still consider Dee Brown's the best.
Charles,
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how much price and availability cycles back and forth for some books. Around 6 years ago when I purchased the Brewer book, it was difficult to find online and very expensive. Most listings were around $80! Now, it is very easy to find, and like you say, very reasonably priced.
Drew: How about a list of the top 25 Civil War Cavalry Books ? I believe it would be worthwhile. James
ReplyDeleteThis is a good list. I especially enjoyed Evans' "Sherman's Horsemen."
ReplyDeleteWe are about to add a substantial cavalry title to the literature with "Failure in the Saddle: Nathan Bedford Forrest, Joseph Wheeler, and Confederate Cavalry in the Chickamauga Campaign," by David Powell (Savas Beatie, October 2010). Our hunch is that battle enthusiasts will really like this one.

James,
ReplyDeleteI agree it would be a worthwhile list project, but with cavalry operations only a recent area of interest for me, I am probably the wrong guy for it.
